STAND Hosts "Voices of Our Youth" Featuring High School Student Essays on Discrimination

PRESS RELEASE

Steamboat Springs, CO - Thursday, May 14

Each year, Steamboat Springs High School students write of a time they have experienced feeling like "The Other," or a time they've felt empathy for "The Other." When they’re finished, they have the option to enter their essays for an award sponsored by STAND. At this convening, a group of the award winners in 2023, 2024 and 2025 will STAND UP and read their essays.

TGrowing up in Steamboat is supposed to be the dream. STAND encourages you to come listen to these courageous kids tell their stories, to experience their identities, and think about how you can be an ally and upstander for our community’s most precious asset, our children.

The attachment here is the back cover of a book of the award winning essays from the last 3 years. The book will be on sale at the Convening with proceeds going back to STAND.

The event will take place on Monday May 18th from 5-6:30pm  at the Wildhorse Cinema + Arts. Community members are encouraged to attend, listen, and build community. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase, and the event is free and open to the public. Registration is required here: https://www.harmishpacha.org/event/stand-voices-of-our-youth.html.

STAND works to disrupt antisemitism and discrimination through education, dialogue, and community-based action. This event reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering empathy and belonging across Routt County, especially through the next generation.
